What is GMAT? Do I need GMAT?

The Graduate Management Admission or GMAT Test is a standardized test that you must take to apply to business schools, especially MBAs. It is a Computer Adaptive Test with multiple-choice questions.

It is an approximately 3-hour computer adaptive test used to assess analytical, quantitative, verbal, and writing skills. Test takers are scored on these abilities and given a GMAT score between 200 and 800 in 10-point increments. These scores are used by business school admissions committees when candidates apply to their MBA programs and benchmark candidates from different backgrounds and regions, which is why most schools prefers the GMAT over other tests. As a globally recognized test, your GMAT score puts you on an equal footing with candidates from around the world for programs in one of 110 countries. The test also allows you to compete fairly with other candidates with very diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

MBA programs or other graduate business programs may require GMAT scores. Therefore, students should carefully review the application requirements for their destination universities. In schools that do not require the GMAT test, students can also submit their GMAT scores if they feel their scores will enhance their applications.
